Database Description
The centres taking part in this project currently hold 28 collections covering most of the biodiversity: human and animal cells, bacteria, fungi, yeasts, plasmids, phages, plant viruses and cells, DNA probes. The total holdings of their collections are nearly 140,000 deposits (110,000 of which are currently included in the catalogues), which represent approximately half of available deposits in Europe (by reference to the European Culture Collection Organization (ECCO) membership, 1995).
Participating Centres are the following:
- BCCM Belgian Co-ordinated Collections of Micro-organisms, Brussel, Belgium
- CABI Bioscience, Egham, United Kingdom
- CBS Centraalbureau voor Schimmelcultures, Utrecht, The Netherlands
- CRBIP Centre de Ressources Biologiques de l'Institut Pasteur, Paris, France
- DSMZ Deutsche Sammlung von Mikroorganismen und Zellkulturen, Braunschweig, Germany
- ICLC Interlab Cell Line Collection, Genova, Italy
- NCIMB National Collections of Industrial, Marine and Food Bacteria, Aberdeen, Scotland, United Kingdom
CABRI network services were developed at the Human Genome Mapping Project - Resource Centre (HGMP-RC) and are now maintained by the National Cancer Research Center of Genoa
